One year on YouTube - 5 things I've learned
I've been recording videos for my photography vlog for a year now and have learned a lot along the way! Here are my top five things that I've learned vlogging for the last 12 months. YouTube is hard work! I've certainly learned that! 1. Firstly there's a lot more to making a video than just taking a GoPro along on a shoot - which is how I imagined it would be in the beginning. You need to consider the sound, the b-roll and context of what you're filming, and then there's the

YouTube channel trailer
I finally managed to put together a trailer for my YouTube Channel. I'd been struggling with the pacing and actually putting the appropriate content together and just couldn't produce anything that I was happy with. After about a year I've finally produced one I'm happy with though! Have a look and let me know what you think! #astrophotographytips #nightscapephotography #sheffieldphotographer #youtube #photographyvlog

Making a short Photography film in the Peak District
I met up with Adam and Anthony from Escape Everything Studios recently to do some filming. Adam and Ant have put together a great little film which I provided some voiceover for. Check it out over on their YouTube Channel or watch below. Managed to get a couple of half-decent images that night, although I did struggle a little. I do quite like the composition of this image though: I was an eye-opening experience and has given me some more ideas for my channel that I want to e

Starting a Photography Limited Company
Whilst I've been a photographer for some time now, I've decided to take the step of incorporating my business and starting a Limited Company. As of today - 6th of February 2018 - Craig Skinner Photography Limited is officially trading! This step will hopefully open a few new doors for me and help me with the plans I already had for this year and beyond. I'm certainly going to use the opportunity to really put my all into my photography and see where it can take me. I'm not go

Landscape photography at night - astrophotography in Derbyshire
With the vague challenge of doing some night photography in my local area and trying to focus on a small number of compositions, I set out one cold and misty winter night near Charnock - an area that's cropped up in my vlogs before. I didn't really manage to keep the number of shots I took down as I'd intended, but I did get a few shots I was really pleased with. The sky was nice and clear at first but some cirrus cloud was occasionally rolling over which I always love photog

Landscape photography at night and astrophotography in rural Florida
I took advantage of 2 weeks in Florida to tackle some night time photography and make a vlog. The skies above rural Florida were so much better for seeing the stars than I imagined they would be and I was privileged to be able to shoot the Milky Way whilst there. Check out the video below to see how I got on: I took some of my favourite shots from 2017 on this trip! It seemed every location I found had more and more potential for great night time photographs and astrophotogra

Astrophotography seascapes & wildlife photography at night...
I travelled to Saltburn-by-the-Sea on the North Yorkshire coast for some astrophotography and seascape photography in this episode of the vlog. The beach and particularly Saltburn pier are great locations for photographing the stars and I was really pleased with what I came away with. Check out the vlog here: One of my favourite images from the shoot, and actually one of my favourite photographs from 2017 is this one looking down the pier: But also looking back down the pier
