YouTube channel trailer
I finally managed to put together a trailer for my YouTube Channel. I'd been struggling with the pacing and actually putting the appropriate content together and just couldn't produce anything that I was happy with. After about a year I've finally produced one I'm happy with though! Have a look and let me know what you think! #astrophotographytips #nightscapephotography #sheffieldphotographer #youtube #photographyvlog

Kids portrait shoot in the woods
We were out walking at Lady Canning's Plantation near Ringinglow, just outside Sheffield. The light was great and I had my camera so took some really nice portraits of Erica and Alys. Erica was being a bit grumpy though - she had "face on" as they say round these parts - so not many shots of her came out usable! The joys of working with kids sometimes! This is probably one of my favourite photographs I've taken of Alys. The smile was about as genuine as they come - she loves

Sarah & Chris's Yorkshire wedding
Sarah and Chris asked me to photograph their intimate wedding at St James church in Woodhouse, Sheffield. It was a sunny, warm day in late June, and St James church is a fine little place. Here is a small selection of images from the ceremony: #sheffieldphotographer #sheffieldweddingphotographer #stjameswoodhouse #yorkshireweddingphotographer #yorkshirewedding

Landscape photography on your doorstep
A thought hit me whilst out running: I don't make the most of what's on my doorstep for landscape photography. Hands up which landscape photographer truly does? In my latest photography vlog I have a wander down to Sheffield station to photograph some urban landscapes and use trains, trams and cars to get some light trails! #urbanlandscapephotography #landscapephotography #sheffield #sheffieldlandscape #urbanlandscape #nightscapephotography #vlog #youtube #yorkshirelandscapep

Landscape photography - return to the wind turbines
After my last vlog I decided to get back to those pesky wind turbines at Penny Hill wind farm but go for some more "normal" landscape photography. I arrived before sunset with the aim of also using that time before dark to figure out my compositions and then shoot at night, hoping for more success than my previous visit. I got a couple of decent shots while it was light, but the wind was just too much again and as the light faded was struggling to get anything usable as thos

Unboxing and real world review: 3 Legged Thing's Travis tripod. And bonus urban nightscape photo
My latest vlog is part review of the fantastic SOLID 3 Legged Thing, Punks, Travis travel tripod; part usual urban nightscape / landscape photography over Sheffield. I'd been intrigued by 3LT's tripods for a while, with their unconventional colour schemes and "rock and roll" air. I wasn't at all surprised, when I finally got my hands on one at this year's Photography Show, to find them truly exceptional in all aspects and so ordered myself the larger of their "travel", or Pun

Nightscape photography - Shooting a waterfall
I had an idea about photographing a waterfall at night and found that Waterfall Swallet, near Eyam in Derbyshire was the closest "big proper" waterfall to me. It was a bit tricky (as these things tend to be!) but I got a few shots that I'm happy with. Here's a couple of the shots I got after running around in the cold and mud firing my flash and doing some light painting: The sky was so beautiful, there were so many stars - not seen so many since Ben Nevis. I had to make a bi

New YouTube blog: Landscape photography at night. In a storm.
So for my latest YouTube photography vlog video I went out into Derbyshire at night to get some shots of Winnats Pass, near Castleton. Unfortunately the wind and rain was atrocious and I couldn't get the shot I wanted. Heading back home again, I had another idea, and was able to use the bad weather to get something I was happy with at Surprise View, near Hathersage. I took a few shots which you can see in the video, but I'm only going to post the keeper here. And as I explain

New vlog on Youtube - urban landscape photography at night
This episode I spend a couple of nights photographing some urban landscapes and nightscapes in Sheffield, with varying results. Me and my mate James fail at some urban exploration, but I do manage to get some good shots. Check out the video below, and if you're interested in seeing more then subscribe and you'll be updated when I upload new videos! We started off at the canal basin in Sheffield, shooting The Straddle: After failing to get up high at St. Vincent's church I too

Launching my new YouTube photography channel
Something I've been playing with the idea of for a good while now is starting a YouTube channel about all things photography. It seems to me to be the natural extension of keeping a photography blog really. You'll be able to follow me as I go out shooting and see what I get up to as well as get tips and photography advice. I'm aiming to do reviews and opinion pieces as well. All whilst not trying to take myself too seriously... I've got two videos up already and I think with
