Night photography in South Africa - rain, trees, lights and bugs
My first proper astrolandscape photography outing didn't offer the best conditions for photographing the night sky, but making the best of it I got some good images using what I had. I'd spent an evening getting some b-roll and shooting a timelapse of the night sky, assuming the good weather would continue until the next day. I was wrong. Check out the photography vlog here: So, no night sky photography, but here a a couple of interesting images I got in the garden of where I

How to easily shoot light trails
Recently uploaded a quick tutorial video on how to shoot light trails. Does what it says on the tin - some quick and easy tips and advice for photographing light trails. If you're new to long exposure photography and want to try it out, give it a watch. And show me the results, of course! You can watch the video here. And this is the image I shot in the video: #longexposure #lighttrails #photographytutorial

Nightscape photography | Reflections on the canal, Leeds
Long exposure photography and water reflections were the order of the day in this episode of the vlog. I made the most of the canal in Leeds to shoot some night time cityscapes and urban landscapes. It had been a while since I photographed the city at night and it was nice to get back to where things started on my YouTube channel (albeit in a different city!). Check out the vlog: It was a super-hot day in early May and the temperature meant even by 10pm it was really comforta

Astro landscape photography in The Peak District
In this episode of the vlog I do some location scouting in The Burbage Valley while looking for a particular spot. Local artist and photographer Ladoza inspired me with an Instagram post of his showing a rock formation full of water with Higger Tor in the background at sunrise. I thought this would make a great nightscape composition so set out to find the exact spot... I'll leave the vlog to explain the rest of it. Needless to say, I got wet. Here are the images I took that

Landscape photography at night - astrophotography in Derbyshire
With the vague challenge of doing some night photography in my local area and trying to focus on a small number of compositions, I set out one cold and misty winter night near Charnock - an area that's cropped up in my vlogs before. I didn't really manage to keep the number of shots I took down as I'd intended, but I did get a few shots I was really pleased with. The sky was nice and clear at first but some cirrus cloud was occasionally rolling over which I always love photog

Landscape photography at night and astrophotography in rural Florida
I took advantage of 2 weeks in Florida to tackle some night time photography and make a vlog. The skies above rural Florida were so much better for seeing the stars than I imagined they would be and I was privileged to be able to shoot the Milky Way whilst there. Check out the video below to see how I got on: I took some of my favourite shots from 2017 on this trip! It seemed every location I found had more and more potential for great night time photographs and astrophotogra

Photographing a cloud inversion in the Peak District
In this photography vlog I finally get my confidence back and take some great night time landscape images up in the Peak District too. After last week's lack of confidence when it comes to vlogging and photography, I think I'm back on track now! Watch till the end for a bonus astrophotography shot that was so unexpected that I was too excited about it to remember to vlog! Check out the video: And some of the images I took that night: #photographytutorial #peakdistrictphotogra

Night photography tutorial fail.
I had plans to start a landscape photography / nightscape photography tutorial video but a sudden lack of confidence and a lack of inspiration caused me to struggle. After a few tries I battled through it and managed to at least take some acceptable night photography shots. Check out the images I came away with... #nightscapephotography #photographytutorial #ladybower #longexposure

Landscape photography at Flamborough Head
I visited Flamborough in East Yorkshire and did some long exposure landscape photography by the sea. It's not often I get the chance to shoot landscapes or seascapes during daylight hours and I relished the opportunity and change in pace. I feel the concentration level required is completely different to that needed for night time landscape photography and astrophotography, and I generally felt a lot more relaxed and at ease with my surroundings. There certainly didn't feel l

Urban landscape photography and Supertram light trails - Park Grange, Sheffield
I had a couple of spots in mind with great views over Sheffield city centre for some urban nightscape photography recently. As I explain in the video though, not all good views translate well into good images. I couldn't really get the shots I was looking for but after chasing the trams for a while I at least got something half decent and quite cool looking: You can see my vlog over on YouTube about how I took this image. #sheffieldlandscape #nightscape #nightphotography #ur
